Fence Installation, done right.

A fence does a lot of jobs: privacy from the neighbors, a safe yard for kids and dogs, a barrier around a pool, or a clean line that finishes off a landscape. We install fences for homes across Marlborough and MetroWest and for builders who need fencing as part of a new home or a finished site.

The most common fence problem in New England is leaning or heaved posts. Frost pushes shallow posts up a little each winter until gates stop closing and sections tilt. We set posts deep, in properly prepared holes, and check that the line stays straight and level along the slope of your yard.

Machado Landscaping & Construction Inc is family-owned and based in Marlborough, MA, with over 25 years of hands-on experience in construction. We work for homeowners and as a sub for builders and general contractors across Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.

Choosing a fence material and style

Most homeowners choose between a few common options, and we go through them with you during the free estimate. Wood fences (cedar and pressure-treated are common) give a natural look and can be stained or painted, but need some upkeep over the years. Vinyl fences need very little maintenance and keep their color. Other options, such as aluminum or chain link, fit pools, dogs and property lines where you want to keep the view open.

Style depends on the job: a solid privacy fence for a backyard, a picket fence for the front, or an open style that marks the line without blocking light. We talk through height, how the fence handles slopes (stepped or following the grade) and what will look right with your house.

Frost, slopes, permits and property lines

Posts need to go deep enough for the frost in your area, with gravel at the bottom of the hole so water drains away instead of freezing around the post. That is what keeps gates closing smoothly years later.

New England yards are rarely flat and often have ledge, roots or old stone walls along the line. We plan around them during the layout. Many towns have rules about fence height, and pool fences usually have specific code requirements, so check with your town before the job; we can tell you what to ask. It also helps to know exactly where your property line is, and a survey is the safest way to confirm it.

A straight fence and a clean yard

Fence jobs leave dirt from post holes and offcuts from panels and boards. We keep material stacked in one area, spread or haul away the extra soil, and clean up every day. At the end we check every gate, clean the line and walk the finished fence with you.

How it works. Three steps.

  1. Step 01: Call or send photos

Call or text (508) 663-9401 with a few photos of the area and a short note about what you have in mind. We reply within 1 hour during business hours, Mon-Sat, 8am to 6pm.

  2. Step 02: Free estimate, no visit fee

We walk the fence line, measure the length and slope, note gates and obstacles, go over material and style options and give you a clear written estimate. No visit fee.

  3. Step 03: Set posts, install, clean up and walk through

We dig and set the posts, install the sections level with the grade and hang the gates. Then we clean up soil and offcuts, haul away debris and walk the fence with you.
